North Lawndale Cultural Center and Historic Path
At UIC, our studio focused on a large neighborhood in Chicago’s near west side. After doing research as a studio, we had comprehensive understanding of the neighborhoods issues, positive and negative aspects and areas for improvement. This neighborhood had roughly 40% of the buildings missing from the blocks and it was in miserable shape. My project developed a strategy to emphasize the history of this important neighborhood with relationship to the civil rights movement and also its rich musical history as well as the different eras of North Lawndale.
I also have a blog entry about this project. The blog entry explains some of the important historic research that went shaped this project for me. Click here for the blog entry.
