Isoar #33, Visual Acoustics.  I just watched this movie last night.  Great movie.  It’s about an amazing architectural photographer, Julius Shulman and the documentary highlights Shulman’s work with respect to LA’s classic modernism.  If you have Netflix, you can watch it instantly online.  It’s definitely worth it.

Isoar #32 Space Invaders

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Isoar #32, Space Invaders.  Space Invaders makes street art and gives a perfect example of how “street art” is different than graffiti.  There is no play with letters.  Space Invaders uses the iconic video game and uses it as a signature/brand.  The competitive part of this type of street art is the location of their work.  I remember seeing a couple pieces of Space Invaders in Paris and Barcelona and I was impressed at the effort it would take to get to some of these places.  The other part of this type of street art is the bravery it takes to do pieces in the more visible locations.  Space Invaders uses mosaic to do their work and it makes their work blend into the surroundings more than a lot of other street artists.   The photo above is one that I took when I came across them in Barcelona.  I know I saw their pieces about 6 or 7 times in a couple different cities, so they are really taking over!  Check out more of their work here.at Space-Invaders.com.

Isoar #31 Apex One Graffiti

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Isoar #31, Apex One.  Graffiti is an international phenomenon.  Apex One has a crazy 3d style that switches between graphic and 3d.  He’s coming out of San Francisco, but I have seen work of his at the printing company just off 1st Ave downtown Minneapolis.  Check out more of his work on Facebook or Flickr.

Isoar #30, Miss Van

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Isoar #30, Miss Van. Wandering through the streets of Barcelona and Paris, I was able to find out about a lot of street artists.  I would have never heard of them if I didn’t decide to take the trip, so I’m glad I did.  Miss Van is an artist with a ton of signature, feminine and unique characters.  In Barcelona, street art is all over the place and I remember coming across one of her pieces in El Raval.  There was an outdoor cafe and across the very narrow street from the cafe, there was one of Miss Van’s pieces on a corner.  We were walking the neighborhood, so I had to stop and take a quick photo, but I later found out that the piece I snapped was one of hundreds around from the notorious Miss Van (see photo below).  She also works on canvas, so check out her website here.  www.missvan.com
